Quartz is an abundant mineral, but did you know that a rare form combines the colours of amethyst and citrine? Ametrine is such a gem. It is a beautiful bi-colour transparent gem that displays both the purple of amethyst and the golden-yellow of citrine. The different colours seen are caused by varying trace elements becoming present at different times during the crystals growth process. It is mined in only one location – the Anahi mine in Bolivia.

According to legend, ametrine was first brought to Europe by a Conquistador. He discovered it in South America. The gem was then offered to the Spanish Queen as a thank you for letting him marry a Bolivian princess by the name of Anahi – hence the name of the mine.

Finecraft has a selection of Ametrine stones. Please feel free to pay us a visit and have a look at these fascinating gems.
